Message	times on a skid pan during advanced driver training (intentional) most cars can and do hydroplane starting at about 40 mph. What is scary is that a car can be doing 50 or 60 mph straight line while riding on an eighth to quarter incch of water. Touch the brakes or turn wrong and you are in for a wild ride. Tires help but there are all sorts of laws of physics and hydro-dynamics at play in the rain. Not to mention deep puddles or water build up at the edge of the road. Glad to hear you were not hurt.
